Mammoth Film Festival Announces Competition Format

November 1, 2007 – 11:17 am

MAMMOTH LAKES, CA–Organizers of the Mammoth Film Festival™ are pleased to announce the general format of the Mammoth Film Festival™ film competition.

The competition will be structured in a proprietary elimination-style tournament format, with individual films pitted against each other, and the judging power lying in the hands of the audience. This will lead to a final showdown to determine the winner of the Festival.

“We didn’t want to present just another traditional style film competition like you find at other festivals,” explained Festival co-founder and tournament creator Andreas Wettstein. “The pace and format of the Mammoth Film Festival tournament is a shootout that will add intensity to the event for the filmmakers, and include the audience in the process in a way that’s never been done before.”

“I just hope people bring enough snacks and a seat cushion because each tournament screening this year is a double feature,” added Festival founder Meng King. “With our film tournament, audiences are no longer spectators at a film festival, but instead, they now become key participants.”

The tournament format will debut at the four-day 2007 Mammoth Film Festival™, and will be tested on a limited single-elimination basis. The film tournament will expand fully to the double-elimination of 128 films over a ten day period at the 2008 Mammoth Film Festival™ (November 13-23, 2008), and Festival organizers hope to also add ancillary competitions using a similar tournament style. Full entry and eligibility requirements for the 2008 competition will be announced after the 2007 event.

About The Mammoth Film Festival

The Mammoth Film Festival™ takes place annually, the week before Thanksgiving, in Mammoth Lakes, California. It is comprised of a film competition, market and trade show. The Festival celebrates the business of film and its importance in today’s entertainment industry, as well as its impact in the global economy, and hopes to benefit not only the industry’s business side and artistic side, but also the community of Mammoth Lakes.

Mammoth’s geographic location, nearly equidistant from the major population centers of Los Angeles and San Diego to the south, Reno to the north, and San Francisco to the west, makes it a natural nucleus for winter and summer activities. Incorporated in 1984, the Town of Mammoth Lakes sits at an altitude of 7,900 feet, and is surrounded by mountains exceeding 12,000 feet. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, one of the top ski resorts in the United States, is located just outside of town.
