The Promise of New York
(Raul Barcelona)

In post 9-11 New York, three unlikely candidates are running for mayor: a long-time political gadfly, a high school math teacher, and an avant-garde blogger. Dissatisfied with Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s job at City Hall, they are putting their faith in American democracy in order to bring social and political change to their beloved city.

But, as they soon discover, running for office in America is not all that it’s cracked up to be. Faced with a mass media indifferent to their cause, and an electoral system that caters to the rich established parties, these underdogs will do anything possible to participate in an election. They want to change it up, and keep it from being about the same old empty promises.

Will they be able to exert their political rights and discover their voices? Can three ordinary men find a way to rise above the manipulated masses and bring about the change they seek? Will they be able to reclaim the promise of New York?
