Autodoc
(Brian Elerding)
A group of artists in the California desert sets out to film and document
their lives and art. When fame strikes unexpectedly, these young rebels
must struggle to maintain their integrity amidst an explosion of publicity,
sex, drugs, and six digital cameras that never stop rolling.
Hugo and Emmy are a young couple in love, attending art school in arid
San Bernardino, where their art collective excels at film-making, live
performance, writing, and visual arts that challenge the status quo. When
the group is joined by Tristan, a rising Hollywood star, their ‘Drive
Collective’ is thrust into the Los Angeles spotlight. As the pressure mounts
to live up to their newfound fame, Hugo and Emmy find themselves in a
world where the lines between the personal and the commercial – and
between life and art – are alarmingly blurred.
Shot in a combination of cinematic wide-screen and raw, documentary-
style hand held digital video, Autodoc questions art in a world of
consumers and private life in an age of reality entertainment. This film is
loosely based on the Dada revolution of 1916.
