MAMMOTH LAKES, CA —Organizers of the Mammoth Film Festival have announced a new Faith-Based film category, which will debut as a competitive category at the 4th Annual Mammoth Film Festival, taking place December 8-12, 2010, in Mammoth Lakes, California.

The Faith-Based category is open to a broad range of films, both documentary and narrative style, of any length. Work submitted in this category must use faith-based, religious, or inspirational themes in the characters, topics, issues, or storylines. Films accepted into competition will be vying for the Best Faith-Based Film award. The addition of this new category comes on the heels of the successful addition of two other specialty competitions, Green and Extreme Sports, which debuted at the 2009 event.

“Faith-based films, especially those with Christian themes, have become increasingly successful and popular in Hollywood, and with audiences across the world,” said MFF co-founder Andreas Wettstein. “We wanted to give filmmakers creating work in any aspect of this genre an opportunity and a venue to share their viewpoint and storytelling, and give audiences a chance to see the best of these films.”

Overall, the festival gives out ten awards across nine categories. In addition to Faith-Based, Green, and Extreme Sports, other categories are Drama, Comedy, Foreign, Documentary, Documentary Short, and Narrative Short. The festival also features one non-competitive category, the Screening Series, designed to provide an opportunity for films which already have a distribution arrangement, are otherwise not qualified, or do not wish to enter competition. The four traditional categories, Drama, Comedy, Foreign, and Documentary, will once again compete in MFF’s trademark elimination-style tournament. Films in other categories will participate in separate satellite competitions.

Last year’s 3rd annual Mammoth Film Festival presented an outstanding lineup of films in all categories, including the new-for-2009 Green and Extreme Sports categories. In addition to film screenings, filmmakers and attendees enjoyed a number of hosted events, including The Hollywood Reporter party, and sixty inches of fresh snow during the five-day festival.

Deadlines for submitting a film for consideration are June 15, 2010 (Earlybird), August 15, 2010 (Regular), and September 15, 2010 (Late). MFF’s submissions partner, Withoutabox, also offers its members an exclusive extended deadline, September 30, 2010. Entry fees vary based on entry date and category. Full details are available at the official website, www.mammothfilmfestival.com.

Mammoth Lakes, CA–Organizers of the 2008 Mammoth Film Festival are pleased to announce the world premiere screening of the documentary film State of Rock, from New York filmmaker Anthony Arkin. The film will screen Friday, November 21, at 7pm, as part of the closing weekend festivities at the annual event in Mammoth Lakes, California.

State of Rock was conceived when Arkin moved in next door to Brooklyn-based hard metal rockers, Girls Of Porn. As a longtime punk and metal enthusiast, Arkin quickly became a fan of their raucous live shows, and suddenly found himself in the midst of a burgeoning local rock scene. Finding the day-to-day grind of these working rockers a fascinating and neglected topic, he took up the challenge to document it.

“We’re used to seeing the glossed-over, MTV-sanctioned stuff. Stuff about over-hyped, over-bloated rock dinosaurs that cling to relevance by a thread, but still have a greed for attention,” says Arkin. “This is for the real rock stars. The ones who haven’t forgotten what it’s like to be hungry. The ones who aren’t famous. Yet.”

Produced by Arkin, Robert Reames and David Carlson for N7Films, State of Rock takes you on a gut-level behind-the-scenes tour of this raw, hard rock world, following the band through a four-year journey on its rollercoaster quest, driven by a motley crew of unsung dreamers: a roadie who wants to be in the band, a “suit” who used to be, and two lead singers who almost get their shot (including a pre-American Idol Constantine Maroulis).

“State of Rock is a gritty, touching, absurd filmmaking debut which continues to resonate in my brain,” says acclaimed film director Robert Downey Sr. “If I were wearing a hat, I’d tip it to Mr. Arkin.” Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden producer/engineer Ron St. Germain describes Arkin’s film as “a voyeuristic inside view…unique, compelling and long overdue.”

In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Arkin has acted in numerous projects, including the Woody Allen films Hollywood Ending and Anything Else, Sidney Lumet’s 100 Centre Street, I’m Not Rappaport on Broadway, and Elaine May’s off-Broadway hit, Power Plays. His novel Captain Hawaii was published by Harper Collins. Arkin is the son of Academy Award-winning actor Alan Arkin, and actress and writer Barbara Dana.

The 2008 Mammoth Film Festival takes place November 13-23, in Mammoth Lakes, California. Features and shorts compete in two separate contests, with the feature film contest culminating in MFF’s traditional elimination-style tournament. Winners will be announced at the Festival Awards Party on November 22.

MAMMOTH LAKES, CA — The Mammoth Film Festival selection committee is pleased to announce that Courting Condi has been chosen as the Opening Night film at the 2008 Mammoth Film Festival. This “unique” and “cutting-edge” film is the only entry to receive this honor, and will officially kick off the 2008 event as the first screening.

Directed by Sebastian Doggart, Courting Condi is a musical docu-tragi-comedy. Part Borat, part Fahrenheit 9/11, and part Chicago, the film follows a love-struck soul’s hilarious, emotionally engaging, and ultimately shocking quest to woo Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. In addition to Rice, the film stars Devin Ratray (Home Alone), Adrian Grenier (Entourage), Jim Norton (Monster Rain), Oscar-winning songwriter Carol Connors, Lawrence Wilkerson (Colin Powell’s Chief of Staff), and Frank Luntz (consultant to Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Bush family).

The Opening Night screening of Courting Condi is scheduled to take place at 9:00 PM on November 13, 2008, immediately following the Founders’ Reception, and will be held at the Grand Sierra Lodge at The Village. At least two additional screenings are scheduled during the first half of the festival, and further screenings are possible, depending on the outcome of the film competition.

Information on all films and screening times, as well as Festival Passes required for admission, are available at www.mammothfilmfestival.com.

The 2008 Mammoth Film Festival will take place November 13-23, 2008, in Mammoth Lakes, California. Features and shorts will compete in two separate contests, and the feature film contest will culminate in Mammoth Film Festival’s traditional elimination-style tournament. Winners will be announced at the Festival Awards Party on November 22nd, where six awards will be presented: one award for Best Short Film; four Best in Category awards to feature film finalists in documentary, foreign, drama, and comedy/musical; and the festival’s top award, Best Picture, for the top overall feature film. The Best Picture and Best Short Film winners will also receive a digital distribution prize package, provided by New World Digital Entertainment.

MAMMOTH LAKES, CA –- Organizers of the Mammoth Film Festival are pleased to announce that Brian Hammers will return as Program Director for the 2008 Mammoth Film Festival.

Mr. Hammers served as Program Director for the highly successful inaugural event in 2007, and is also the Director of the Sunset Film Fest, a monthly short film festival held in Los Angeles, California. Mr Hammers’ Sunset Film Fest experience will come directly into play this year as the Mammoth Film Festival adds a new short film competition to the 2008 event, in addition to continuing the feature film tournament.

“Brian is a great asset to the Mammoth Film Festival, and his expertise will be invaluable as we expand this year’s event, and continue to grow into the future,” said MFF’s Andreas Wettstein.

The Mammoth Film Festival has begun the 2008 submission process for both feature and short films, with regular and late deadlines approaching on August 31, 2008, and September 30, 2008, respectively. Filmmakers may submit their work through either the official Festival website, or through Withoutabox (http://www.withoutabox.com/login/5613).

About The Mammoth Film Festival

The Mammoth Film Festival takes place annually, just before Thanksgiving, in Mammoth Lakes, California. It is comprised of a film competition, market and trade show. The Festival celebrates the business of film and its importance in today’s entertainment industry, as well as its impact in the global economy, and hopes to benefit not only the industry’s business side and artistic side, but also the community of Mammoth Lakes.

Mammoth’s geographic location, nearly equidistant from the major population centers of Los Angeles and San Diego to the south, Reno to the north, and San Francisco to the west, makes it a natural nucleus for winter and summer activities. Incorporated in 1984, the Town of Mammoth Lakes sits at an altitude of 7,900 feet, and is surrounded by mountains exceeding 12,000 feet. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, one of the top ski resorts in the United States, is located just outside of town.
